Tom Barry on Awakening with Mother Earth

Being in the Present

Tom Barry Season 2 Episode 21

Being in the moment must become your natural way because it’s the only way your consciousness can experience the firth dimension. To get started, intend to be in the now, be mindful, and just start. Ensure that you come from the heart and objective awareness. The mediation of watching your breathing is useful for this.

The only moment available to you is the present moment, and that present moment is the door to all other moments. Being in the moment must become your natural way because the present moment is the only possible moment in which you can consciously be connected with higher self, in which your consciousness can experience higher awareness and firth dimensional consciousness. It is the only moment in which you can let go of old ways, experience oneness, and be truly living from your heart. By contrast, the typical human habit is an almost ceaseless state of unaware, automatic arising of one’s own mind and emotions, and ceaseless reaction to one’s own karma and the world of appearance.

The 3 ways to get started are:

1) intent–intend to be in the now, and consistently return to this intent until you exist in this state of intent;

2) mindfulness–objective awareness of what’s happening with you—your mind, emotions, reactions, and responses—without reaction to what arises, or thought, analysis or judgment of it.

3) action–wherever you are, just start, you don’t need to reach a particular state or understanding. Also ensure that two aspects are present: coming from your heart and having moment-by-moment, completely objective awareness.

Awareness takes mindfulness to the next stage, to where you’re not just mindful of what’s happening with you and around you, you recognize. You can recognize what's arising as a certain type of energy and maybe make the decision to release it, or maybe ignore it. You’re experiencing the arising of your karma, habitual perceptions, ways of being, and deep beliefs about yourself and the world around you. But whatever it is, you’re just aware, you do not interact with it, make it real, follow it, process it, judge it, or think about it. It will become automatic and natural, a smooth flow to reside in the present in a state of calm abiding,moment by moment, letting things go.Simply release whatever it is, however you do that. If you keep doing your best to be in the now, no expectation, the time will come when it will simply be your way to reside in your heart, be in this state of objective awareness of recognizing arising karma, functioning as divine moment by moment.

We suggest getting started by doing the mediation of watching your breathing. After getting centered and connected, move to a state where all you do—all that is in your consciousness, focus, and awareness—is your breath, in and out. Also, make it an aspect of this meditation to reside in your heart and be objectively aware. Many then go on to do following meditations. It’s up to you, but our suggestion for the time being is to not engage in those, because your purpose is to move to a place of being and experiencing the present.
